1. Course Overview
This course provides a comprehensive methodological and practical framework for designing robust sampling protocols for flora and fauna, with a specific focus on forest ecosystems. It bridges field-based inventory techniques (physiognomic, dynamic, phytosociological, and multi-taxa faunal surveys) with modern quantitative ecology, data processing, and multivariate statistical analysis.
2. Recommended Prerequisites
Foundational knowledge in plant biology and animal biology.
3. Intended Learning Outcomes (Target Competencies)
Sampling Design : Formulate and execute statistically sound sampling strategies (random, stratified, systematic) tailored to complex forest environments.
Botanical & Faunal Inventories : Master standard field techniques for vegetation classification and multi-taxa wildlife monitoring (mammals, birds, herpetofauna, arthropods, aquatic fauna).
Ecological Modeling : Estimate population density and species richness using standardized quantitative metrics.
Multivariate Data Processing : Apply advanced biostatistical tools and multivariate analyses to identify and characterize distinct species assemblages.
